For over 25 years, The Compassionate Friends have held a worldwide candle lighting service of remembrance on the second Sunday in December. Services of readings, testimonials, and music are held in cities all around the world, with candles being lit at 7:00 pm to honor our children, siblings, and grandchildren who were gone too soon. As candles are extinguished in one time zone, they are lit in another, creating a virtual ring of light circling the globe for 24 hours. Hundreds of formal services are held around the world, and thousands more informal candle lightings take place in private homes in memory of our loved ones.
The Boston chapter of The Compassionate Friends will hold its service at The United Parish of Auburndale, 64 Hancock Street, Auburndale, MA 02466 at 6:00 pm on December 8, 2024. The service will include a testimonial by Beverly Loudin, mother of Nick Epstein, readings of our loved ones’ names, live music, candle lighting, a photo display, and refreshments afterwards. For more information, contact beverlyloudin@gmail.com or amykremer@outlook.com.
While all are warmly invited to attend this event in person, we recognize that some members of our community may not be able to do so. Therefore, we will be livestreaming the event so that all can be included. To obtain the link for the livestream, contact beverlyloudin@gmail.com or amykremer@outlook.com.
For those who are unable to attend our service in person, another option is to join the national TCF virtual candle lighting (https://www.compassionatefriends.org/virtual-worldwide-candle-lighting/).
